Sometimes a person needs a story more than food to stay alive.

Yesterday was an incredibly busy day for me. I started off the morning with an early train into the city and over to Columbia for a Journalism Conference for high schoolers from all over the country. I actually went to a session about how bloggers may be the main source of information for the future. We may be much more powerful than we ever thought, hah. It was an interesting conference though and as soon as it was done I left for a much more saddening event.
I attended a funeral service for two women that I grew up with and admired above all else. Their lives were cut short by a hit and run. The service was really beautiful and was more of a celebration of their time and their overwhelming contribution to the community. A lot of the service focused on appreciation, how to truly appreciate things before they are gone. We take so many things for granted every day and I want to try to learn how to change that. I have no idea how I will accomplish that but the hurt that comes from taking something for granted is immeasurable. Those two women meant such a great deal to me and were so influential in my childhood, but at the time they were really helping me, I had no idea. And I think that's what made them so special. They were both librarians who helped with children, small children who don't even feel the effect of their warm nurturing until they are much older, their work was done without instant gratification which seems so rare in today's world. My generation seems to always be looking for confirmation and ways to make things faster. These women did so much and it makes me so terribly sad that there are so many children who will never be able to meet them. However they did create a wonderful legacy that has and will continue to inspire others to follow in their example, in a world where children spend hours upon hours in front of a television, watching mindless shows or playing gory video games, we can barely stand to lose anyone who can successfully spread the wonder and importance of books and of stories. They will continue to be with us and their incredible spirit will still spread through the hearts of everyone they touched in their time with us.

Both women were also full of style and class and one of them probably started my passion for crazy patterns and exploding colors.

I also went to a Hasty Pudding show last night in the city. It was all actors from Harvard University and they were fabulous. Renee Zellweger was there as well and she was wearing these crazy tall shoes. I would have taken a picture but I didn't want to seem creepy.

Oh and I found my graduation dress today! I'm so happy the hunt is over, it is not easy finding an all white, below the knee, 'appropriate' dress...now I just have to find some all white shoes...
I am also thinking of cutting my hair shorter again but I can't decide if I want to let it grow out more first. The people I've asked so far have urged me to cut it short, apparently I look a bit older and more mature with short hair...and it is easier to manage, what do you think?

I like Kimberly Stewart's hair a lot but I'm not sure if I want to go this short..

Samaire Armstrong's hair is really cute as well..


Or maybe I'll just cut it similar to how I had it a few years ago..
